Five Wonderful Things to Do During a Weekend in Prague

Prague is a wonderful city to visit for the weekend, whether you’re enjoying a quick getaway or touring Europe for a longer time. This guide explains five things that you should do while in Prague that will allow you to see the best of the city while still going home relaxed and happy.

  1. WANDER THE BEAUTIFUL OLD TOWN

The Old Town truly is the heart of Prague and a must-see for any tourist. Let your feet guide you around old, cobbled lanes and medieval buildings as you pop in and out of ornate churches, sweet souvenir shops and traditional pubs. Look out for market stalls and traditional food stalls dotted around, and make sure you catch the Astronomical Clock, which strikes the hour every day. When you’ve bought your souvenirs and soaked up the atmosphere, head to the river and leave the old town by bridge.

  1. GO BACK IN TIME AT PRAGUE CASTLE

If there’s one tourist attraction you should pay to visit during your weekend in Prague, it’s Prague Castle. Learn about Prague’s proud history in the Old Royal Palace, and then follow up your visit with a walk around the gorgeous St. Vitus Cathedral. Climb the South Tower for a birds-eye view of the city and take a walk down Golden Lane to see some of the oldest architecture around. If you’re a Kafka fan, keep an eye out for number 22, where the famous writer briefly resided.

Even if you aren’t interested in history, you can still visit Prague Castle for a quick look round the outside of the buildings for free – don’t forget to take photos!

  1. LEARN SOMETHING NEW AT THE JEWISH MUSEUM

Prague has a rich and interesting history, and the Jewish Museum will help you make sense of it. The Spanish Synagogue, so-called for its ornate, Moorish design, is a must-see, as is the Jewish Cemetery, one of the oldest Jewish burial grounds in the world. However, the museum consists of seven sites overall, with different tickets depending on how much time you have to spare. Permanent exhibitions on Jewish customs and traditions, as well as a memorial to victims of the Holocaust, allow you to reflect and learn. Keep an eye out for special exhibitions and classical music concerts during your stay.

  1. TRY TRADITIONAL CUISINE

One of the best things about a weekend in Prague is the food, whether you’re looking for traditional pork knuckle or a hearty potato soup. In terms of street food, you might want to try hot dogs, fried cheese or schnitzel with potato salad, followed by a funnel cake. The Old Town, in particular, is a great place to enjoy a meal alongside a delicious local beer. If you don’t feel like going out, many restaurants offer both local and international dishes.

  1. SPEND SOME TIME RELAXING IN YOUR HOTEL

Whether you’re on a romantic break or simply want to go home feeling relaxed and refreshed, spending some time relaxing in the hotel is a great idea. Chill out and watch some TV, have a coffee and people-watch from your window or head to the hotel bar for a gorgeous cocktail. If you want to make your stay even more relaxing, book yourself a massage. Depending on where you stay, the Old Town is right on your doorstep when you feel like exploring again.
