Prague in December 2019

Prague in December 2019

The month of December is one of the most magical time to visit Prague. Booking your stay at the Alcron Hotel with its great location will make getting to the most charming Christmas attractions such as Christmas markets much easier. If you travel to Prague towards the end of December – especially closer to Christmas and New Year, you will find the streets in Prague very busy and most of the well-known restaurants fully booked.

Visit the Christmas Markets in the city centre

In addition to the Prague Christmas Markets which we described more in details in our previous blog, the festive season will keep you busy and entertained. You can enjoy several annual Christmas events with their popular nativity scenes. The best ones for you to visit are for instance at Our Lady of the Snows and Charles Bridge Museum. Don’t forget to stop by the Jindrisska Tower or the 40th anniversary exhibition at the Bethlem chapel.

Prague in December brings Christmas holidays and traditions

Our country celebrates Christmas Eve on the 24th of December which is the most festive Christmas day for Czech people. The traditional main dish of this special day of a year is a carp with potato salad. Most of restaurants will serve this amazing feast on the Christmas Eve so you will have a chance to taste it. December 25th is The Christmas Day and 26th is The Saint Stephen’s Day.

All these three days are public holidays, but only a few selected shops are closed. The Christmas markets and most of the bars and restaurants are open. Sightseeing tours, river cruises and all tourist attractions operate as normal. There is also festive ambience in lots of fine dining restaurants and some special Christmas concerts that we will be very happy to help you book.

Celebrate the end of the month in Prague

You can celebrate New Year’s Eve in Prague with fireworks and lots of parties in the city. The main and only official firework in Prague is planned for 1st of January from 6 pm. It will pay tribute to the people we have lost in 2019, especially the famous singer Karel Gott.

If you are looking for something not related to Christmas, we recommend you attending the Bohuslav Martinu Music Festival with its selection of music concerts in many Prague’s concert halls or the exhibition of Blanka Matragi, the famous fashion designer, held at Municipal House until 31st of December.

On behalf of the entire team of Alcron Hotel in Prague we would like to wish you amazing holidays. We hope that we will get a chance to celebrate it together with you in our hotel.
