PRAGUE IN DECEMBER

If European cities were a necklace, then Prague would be a diamond among its pearls – this saying even amplifies its meaning during Christmas time. When you visit Prague in December, you will see that Christmas is not just a season but a feeling that overwhelms our city. Do you desire to have a white Christmas? Then there is a fair chance that you will experience the city under the snowflakes at this time of the year. Prague in winter is incredibly beautiful and is considered to be one of Europe’s most romantic destinations for a reason. We hope the Christmas spirit will bring you to Prague and to our romantic Alcron Hotel; the best place to let your Christmas dream begin.

JUST FOLLOW THE SCENT OF MULLED WINE AND SIZZLING SAUSAGES….

… after a few steps from our 5-star Alcron Hotel, the scent will guide you to the very popular Christmas markets on the famous Wenceslas Square. From there it is an easy few-minute walk to reach the magical Old Town Square where you can enjoy the largest and probably the most crowded Christmas markets and also the giant Christmas tree. If you continue to the Charles Bridge and walk further up to Prague Castle, you will find even more Christmas markets. As our Alcron Hotel is conveniently located right in heart of the city center, it will take you less than 15 minutes to walk or one stop by metro to get to Namesti Míru for Christmas markets frequented more by locals than tourists and featuring more handmade goods than touristy products. These markets at Namesti Míru shut already on the 24th while most of the markets are open until the beginning of January.

STAY AT ALCRON AND BE SURROUNDED BY NATIVITY SCENES

By staying at our luxurious Alcron Hotel, you will have the best service right at your doorstep and the best tourist attractions in the palm of your hand. This includes even the most beautiful traditional nativity scenes in Prague that are worth seeing. The closest to our historical Alcron Hotel is the hand-carved wooden nativity scene displayed at Jindrisska Tower or the nativity at the Church of Our Lady of The Snows. There are more to be found at the Charles Bridge Muzeum, Church of Our Lady Victorious, or Bethlehem Chapel.

MEET A REAL LAMPLIGHTER

Do you know that Prague is one of the last three cities in the world using a lamplighter? During advent, you have a unique opportunity to see how a tall man in a First Republic-era outfit lights gas lamps. If you stroll around Charles Bridge and nearby streets around 4 pm, you can even have a word with him.

DON’T BE SCARED IF YOU SEE DEVILS IN THE STREETS

What may seem to be a strange custom for foreigners, locals enjoy it to the fullest. On the 5th devils, angels and St. Nicholas’s trio roams the streets stopping children who sing songs or recite poems for them. If children behaved in the past year, they will get rewarded with sweets. In the opposite case, bad kids will be taken to hell in the devil’s sack or get a sack of potatoes or coal which of course not happens.

GOOD TO KNOW IF YOU COME DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Christmas Eve on the 24th is the most festive day of Christmas in the Czech Republic followed by Christmas Feast on the 25th and St. Stephen’s Day on the 26th. These days are public holidays but tourist attractions operate as normal and there are festive events such as concerts or special entertainment in restaurants. Do not miss the Czech Christmas Mass concerts by the Prague Symphony Orchestra & Choir on the 21st and 22nd and the concert by one of the country’s oldest orchestras, the North Czech Philharmonic, performing on the 30t at the stunning Smetana Hall of Municipal House. The concierge team of our popular Alcron Hotel is always here for you happy to help with anything you need including tickets reservation or for example plans for New Year’s celebrations.

We would be honored if you spend your New Year’s Eve in our professional hands and carefree atmosphere of our famous BeBop Bar which will make the last night of this year special and unforgettable. Come to Alcron Hotel and live out your Christmas fairy tale in Prague and step into the New Year with us!
