Prague in February

Prague in February

February brings the end of winter and builds a bridge for the coming of the spring season. Our 5-star Alcron Hotel is also preparing for the tourist season and your visit. This month is still relatively cold; however, it may be slightly warmer than last month, and you can look forward to an extra hour of sunlight per day. On top of that, February is also the month to celebrate love, and it would be rather tricky to find a place more romantic than Prague!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

Hardly anyone in Czechia knew about Valentine’s Day some 30 years ago. Especially for the older generations, the 14th of February is a day like any other. It has slowly become popular amongst the younger generations. Nowadays, you can see couples on romantic walks enjoying the best fine-dining restaurants, such as our Art Deco La Rotonde restaurant or famous Be Bop Bar. Prague is considered one of the most romantic cities and the perfect place to spend Valentine’s Day with your significant other.

CELEBRATE WITH THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY

Travel Guides Day is celebrated on the 21st of February even here in Prague. You can enjoy the benefits of free or reduced entries to many tourist attractions, special guided walks, and other events celebrating the travel industry.

DO NOT MISS THE FIRST SPRING FAIR IN EUROPE

St. Matthew’s Fair, the largest fairground in Prague, offers about 120 fun attractions and rides such as rollercoasters, carousels, traditional boat swings, horror houses, mirror maze, virtual reality machines, water world, and much more, including many food stalls. It takes place in Holesovice on St. Matthew’s s Day, 24th of February, and lasts for six weeks. This traditional fair is very popular with locals, and its origin goes back to the 16th century.

CULTURAL EVENTS

Besides the rich opera and ballet program of The National Theatre and permanent exhibitions of The National Museum mentioned in our previous blogs, you can visit the concert of Spanish pop star Enrique Iglesias on the 18th of February at O2 Arena. Another riveting event worth mentioning is the unique international multimedia show iMucha. It is the most technologically advanced projection combined with modern music and dance, telling the story of the life and work of the world-famous artist Alfons Mucha. You can see its premiere on the 16th of February at the O2 Universum.

ENJOY WINTER SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Ice-skating, downhill, or cross-country skiing? Whichever you like, you can enjoy within a few minutes’ walk or no more than one hour drive from our luxurious Alcron Hotel. There is a beautiful open-air ice rink right next to the Charles Bridge. It offers not only a lovely view of Prague Castle but also a heated bar with drinks and food.

Downhill skiers will have a great time at ski resort Moninec, close to Prague. And if there is enough snow in Prague, you can even go cross-country skiing in some parts of Prague or drive 30 minutes to the Brdy mountain range.

Though February is the shortest month of the year, we hope you will spend it with the longest-lasting smile on your face like we do at the Alcron Hotel in Prague.
