When June wraps its arms around Prague like a warm blanket, you know the beginning of summer has just arrived to the city. June is the gateway for the upcoming tourist season and fun events. It is said that “Greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals”. This month, you have plenty of opportunities. SPORTS SEASON IS HERE!
“Get Rainbowed” is a fun 5km running race in Prague’s Central Park on the 4th of June. From the 10th until the 12th, Prague is hosting the Canoe Slalom World Cup in Troja. On the 11th, you have a unique chance to compete alongside real cycling professionals and be a part in the L’Etape Czech Republic by Tour de France. Prague City Swim brings swimmers and paddleboarders together to raise funds to fight ALS disease at Strelecky Island on the 18th. Prague Relay is a popular 20 km team race at Stromovka on the 22nd and 23rd.
JUNE EVENT CALENDAR IS PACKED WITH CONCERTS
Concerts at O2 Arena include Eric Clapton on the 5th, Enrique Iglesias on the 8th, Celine Dion on the 22nd, or Alicia Keys on the 25th. Letiste Letnany hosts shows by Guns N’ Roses on the 18th or Metallica on the 22nd. Pet Shop Boys are performing on the 8th at Forum Karlin, where you can also go for a concert by Tom Odell on the 26th. Fans of heavy metal will have a blast at the concert of Iron Maiden at Sinobo Stadium on the 20th.
THIS MONTH IS ONE BIG FESTIVAL
United Islands, a multi-genre music festival, takes place between the 10th and 11th. This free event attracts major artists who perform on stages scattered around Prague’s Islands. One of the most interesting events in June is the Prague Night of Churches on the 10th. Only once a year, most churches open their doors for you to enjoy their nighttime atmosphere, often accompanied by guided tours, concerts, and theater performances. On the same day, the Festival of Microbreweries invites visitors to the Royal Garden of Prague Castle. The Open Gardens Weekend from the 11th until the 12th unlocks gates to several magnificent gardens and parks that are usually not accessible to public. On the 11th, you can also visit Cider Festival on the Prague riverfront called Naplavka. You can comfortably reach the riverfront on foot in a few minutes from our luxurious Alcron Hotel. You can look forward to delicious food, live music, workshops, and even some activities for children. Between the 17th and 18th, Naplavka also hosts the Mini Beer Festival, which will be full of live music, local food, and of course the tastiest beers presented by 50 Czech microbreweries. Rock fans should not miss the Metronome Festival headlined by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Beck, and Oh Wonders at Holesovice Exhibition Ground from 23rd until the 25th. A true delight for all ice cream lovers will be the Ice Cream Festival in Holesovice on the 26th.
