Why to visit Prague in January?

There are plenty of reasons to visit Prague and staying in our Alcron hotel even in winter. It is certainly cold out and you may experience snow which covers our city with a white blanket. However, this gives Prague a beautiful unique face and makes it even more romantic place to visit. Temperatures range from -5°C to 3°C. Days in Prague are shorter with about eight hours of daylight from 8 am to almost 5 pm. On the upside, fares and accommodation is much cheaper and the most beautiful sights are significantly less crowded.

In Prague, you have to visit

You can enjoy outdoor skating at the open-air ice rink in the Old Town. If you prefer to stay warm, you can visit the indoor exhibition, The Knights of Heaven, at the historical building of the National Museum. This exhibition will give you insight about Czechoslovak pilots who flew with the Royal Air Force during World War II. Another very interesting photography exhibition at the National Gallery captures our first Czech president Vaclav Havel and the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.

Prague State Opera reopened in January after a three-year extensive renovation. The reconstruction brought a new rotation stage, new stage curtain and completely renovated rehearsal rooms. Prague is famous for its great opera and other phenomenal performances, therefore advance reservation is highly recommended. Our concierge can help you book the tickets for opera and ballet by Verdi, Tchaikovsky or other well-known composers.

For sports lovers,

there is nothing better to do in January than trying our Czech ski slopes. You can look forward to a total of 698 kilometres of slopes and 916 ski lifts in the Czech Republic. You will find the best and largest ski resort about 2-hour drive from Prague, in Spindleruv Mlyn. It is also the highest one with an altitude of 1464 metres and 29 kilometres of slopes. Our next tip would be visiting the famous spa town Karlovy Vary which is on the way to another great ski resort Klinovec in Krusne Hory.

In case you long for even more snow and mountains, in few more hours, drive from there you will reach the magnificent German or Austrian Alps where you can enjoy the legendary glacier and high-altitude ski resorts. Do not worry about the logistics and hours of planning this trip, get the inspiration through our Alcron Tours and leave the arrangements on us.
